Ever wondered what you can do to help local, regional and overseas missions? Ever feel that you don't know where to start? Ever sense that you could do more, though have no idea what it would take to be involved? Ever thought you can't do anything to help overseas missions, afterall, you don't see yourself being drawn to travel and be on the frontier for missions? Ever thought it would be too hard to be involved? Ever thought mi...ssions didn't really have anything to do with me anyway?
Missions take shape in our community. This is where we can be actively engaged with those around us who are in local unreached people groups. Lets take two examples. The first unreached people group, may be the very people living next door to us who are living at or below the poverty line and can't make ends meet. The second group may be the neighbour around the corner who lives in a domestic violence situation. Did you know that this local council area, Hume, has the highest rates of domestic violence rates across the state? (according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.)
Some of these people, do not know the love of Jesus and may go all their life without having someone walk with them to share the gospel.
Regionally, there are similar people groups, similar experiences. Overseas, we are seeing the pain people experince in our news reports. Civil wars in Libya, The Ivory Coast, Yemmen, Syria and beyond. Roughly 1 of 4 children in developing countries is underweight. Some 350 to 400 million children are hungry and approximately 25,000 people each day die of hunger or its related causes - about 9 million people each year. (ActionAid International USA).
Again tragic numbers of these people, do not know the love of Jesus and will go all their life without having someone walk with them to share the gospel.
Seem ovewhelming? Seem impossible? Seem too big for me?
Well rest assured, YOU CAN help and YOU CAN make a difference and YOU CAN be involved.
How? By uniting with others in prayer. Prayer connects and binds us to the millions of others around the globe who are praying for frontline missionaries to move in local, regional and overseas communities.
YOU CAN be involved, YOU CAN unite in prayer and YOU CAN make a difference.
Lets see how the spirit leads us and join with me in prayer this evening and every Tuesday fortnight, 8pm to 9pm.
